Hello CulinaryCorps Chef-Volunteers, Donors, and Dear Friends
As some of you know, COVID waylaid our plans for an in-person culinary outreach trip this year. So in honor of Giving Tuesday, we’d like to give back to YOU, our amazing crew of CulinaryCorps supporters!
Please join us on Sunday, December 13th at 7pm EST for a *free* virtual screening of the new documentary, Gather, followed by a virtual cooking demonstration by one of the film’s featured chefs, Nephi Craig from Café Gozhóó.
Directed by Sanjay Rawal, Gather is an intimate portrait of the growing movement amongst Native Americans to reclaim their spiritual, political, and cultural identities through food sovereignty, while battling the trauma of centuries of genocide.
After the film, Chef Nephi Craig (founder of the Native American Culinary Foundation) will lead us through a cooking demonstration using locally sourced ingredients from his home of Whiteriver, AZ. During the demo, he will share the importance of the nutritional recovery work being done at the Rainbow Treatment Center and answer participant questions along the way.
This event is free and open to all! For tickets, please register HERE. (Please note: the screening will start at 7pm EST via StorySpaces. The demo will start at 8:15pm EST via Zoom. Both links will be shared upon registration.)
This screening is possible thanks to the generous donations made on this very day last year. The funds were supposed to help create a chef-volunteer scholarship for our 2020 trip but since we’re grounded, we thought this would be the next best thing. So despite not traveling IRL this year, we are excited to virtually engage and educate ourselves instead. We very much hope you can join us too.
Warm wishes this holiday season,
Chris Carroll, Executive Director, CulinaryCorps
