Organization Overview:

Common Threads provides after-school programming to children between 8 and 12 years old.

Students learn basic kitchen skills, cooking techniques, and the importance of fresh ingredients as they prepare healthy ethnic cuisines together. Chef Instructors incorporate Oakley Sunglasses cheap nutrition tips and cultural information into lessons that teach our students how to connect with their bodies, their neighbors, and their world in a healthy way.

Classes are offered in 12-week sessions throughout the school-year—fall and spring. Classes meet once per week and are free to students who qualify for free or reduced school lunches. Common Threads currently provides programs in fourteen different Chicago neighborhood locations, four in Washington, D.C., two in Miami, and two in Los Angeles.

Position Overview:

We are looking for people to volunteer with our children; leading them through the recipes each week, assisting the Chef Instructor and helping with class activities.  Volunteers are asked to attend the afternoon class once a week for the entire 12 – week session.  The next session will http://www.oakleyonorder.com/ begin in September of 2010.  Classes are held after school beginning at 3:00, 3:30 or 4:00 and ending at 5:00, 5:30 or 6:00. Classes are held at 18 locations in Chicago, two in Los Angeles, six in Washington, D.C. and four in Miami.
